One of the first questions people have about professional life coaching has to do with a life coach’s salary.   They want to know how much coaches typically charge, and what they can expect to make as a life coach.

The first thing you need to know is, YES, life coaches really do make money!  In fact, the salary of a life coach is truly unlimited. But how big of a salary do most life coaches earn on average?

One study, conducted by Price/Waterhouse/Cooper for the International Coaching Federation, determined that coaches make $207 per hour on average.  But this is only on average. It in no way represents the full salary potential of this profession. In fact, some executive coaches earn up to $3,500 for a single session!

Coaching is one of an elite handful of careers that allows you the freedom to determine your own fee structure.  You decide what to charge, and the number of clients you work with on any given day. As a life coach, your salary is completely up to you.

Clearly, the salary potential in coaching is fantastic, but most coaches have other, equally rewarding reasons for pursuing this profession.

Finally break free from your 9-5.

Some are seeking more freedom in their day to day lifestyle.  Some yearn for meaningful work that allows them to contribute to others.  And some are simply looking for relief from their 9-5 job, or from demanding bosses or catty co-workers.

You might be considering this career because you want to spend more time at home with your family.  If that’s the case, you are on the right track!

One of the most unique attributes of this profession is that it provides the freedom to work anytime and anywhere.  Literally, the only requirement is a cell phone or an internet connection! You can conduct sessions from home while sitting on a beach, or from anywhere in the world. Coaching gives you the flexibility to work with clients face to face, by phone, or deliver your process entirely online.

For many, this lifestyle freedom is worth giving up a high-paying salary.  But the great news is, you don’t have to!

Say goodbye to trading time for money.

In most professions, you’re “selling” goods or services, and trading time for money.  The field of coaching represents a 180-degree paradigm shift from this. As a coach, you are “selling” empowerment.  What you provide is a possibility. What you deliver is a process by which your clients can clarify their desires and align with them.

Your clients are “buying” greater freedom, abundance, fulfillment, connection… all of which are absolutely unlimited.

And, the best news of all?  The more you support your clients in achieving their goals, the more inspired you become.  Coaching offers technology for transformation, and you cannot facilitate this change in others without reaping the same benefits yourself.  It’s just not possible to support others in realizing their full potential without also realizing your own.

Help yourself while you are helping others.

Aside from the great earning potential and lifestyle freedom, a profession in coaching offers other valuable benefits as well.  And these benefits – while not immediately monetary – can translate into greater abundance in every aspect of your life.

Most high-paying careers – for example, medicine, law, management – are also high-stress. This is because these professions are oriented almost entirely around preventing or fixing problems.  Choosing a career in life coaching is equally lucrative, but it’s also low stress and uplifting.  The focus is not on “fixing” our clients, but on empowering them to arrive at their own conclusions and solutions.  As coaches, our job is guiding others in creating more fulfilling and richer lives, so it’s uplifting rather than stress-producing.

So… what can you expect to make, salary-wise, if you choose a career as a life coach?  The answer is truly unlimited because you set your own fee and manage your own schedule.

But in addition to that salary, you’ll reap other amazing benefits, such as:

  • Feeling joyful and fulfilled in your work
  • Knowing that you have the power to create the life you desire
  • Enjoying an unlimited potential to make money
  • Having a sense of purpose because you’re helping others achieve their dreams

Coaching is an abundant career path that yields far more than just money.  It is a path to making a living while living on purpose.
