There are so many things we don’t want for ourselves. We don’t want to get fat. We don’t want to lose our job. We don’t want to be late. We say don’t almost all the time, yet we fail to ask ourselves what we do want. Christy Whitman and her producer, Rob Trygg, put us back to where we should concentrate as they talk about shifting our focus on the language of doing rather than saying don’t.

QuantumSuccess: Don’t
We’re talking about watch your words. You could go to WatchYourWords.com for the full series of them but now don’t.
Don’t go? Don’t do anything? Don’t tune in to this program? Don’t is a word that people say to themselves.
This is a word that we need to be aware of when we say it and shift the focus to what we want and what we prefer. For example, we are accustomed as human beings to go, “I don’t want to be late. I don’t want to gain weight. I don’t want to lose my job.”
“I don’t want to do any of those.” You are correct. I say that all the time. I don’t want to lose my job.
I don’t want to gain weight. I don’t want to get a divorce. I don’t want to be a single mom. I don’t want to lose my money. I don’t want to get fired.
I don’t want to get in a car accident on the way home. Isn’t that natural? Isn’t that what people say all the time?
It’s what people say all the time, but where is your focus? It’s on what you don’t want. If we’re looking at the basis of how our universe works on the Law of Attraction, what we focus on expands. When we’re focused on, “I don’t want to gain weight.” Where’s our focus? It’s on what we don’t want.
With business, I don’t want to lose a client. Nobody wants to lose a client. You can subconsciously say that to yourself and what you concentrate on, comes back to you.
Instead of, “I don’t want to lose this client,” focus on, “I want to keep this client. I want to develop a long-standing relationship with this client. I want this client to be with me for however long years.”
Most of us in business want their clients as long as we can keep them.
The Law of Detachment is another thing, but when you’re focused on what you don’t want and you shift it to what you do want, it feels better. Say that to yourself, “I don’t want to get in a car accident.”
I don’t but what I should say is, “I do want to drive safely.” I should have myself from the last program. If you’ve been listening to Infotainment Radio, you know I’m still working on my can’ts, don’ts, tries and should-haves.
You don’t want to get into a car accident. What do you want? Ask yourself, “What do I want?”
I want to drive home safely.
Focus on that. It seems subtle.
It seems like this is getting carried away.
What you focus on expands. Imagine that little slight subtle difference of language and the words that you use. It continues to change over time. What if you said to yourself twenty times a day, “I don’t want to mess this up. I don’t want to screw this up. I don’t want to lose my job.” You’re focused on all the things that you don’t want.
Somehow subconsciously, it comes and happens. I remember I had to do a business lunch and I said, “I don’t want to mess this up. These are important clients. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do that.” Lo and behold, I did everything I didn’t want to do. You then think, “I did that. I don’t want to do that.” It then gets even worse.
You’re on a downward spiral.
I did a whole downward spiral during this business lunch. I don’t think people notice as much as you do on the inside when you’re doing a business lunch or presenting to a client or something like that, but you do and it spirals down.
Half the time, we don’t understand all the activity that’s going on in someone’s head. I can look at you and sit here and you look calm, but you might be having your monkey mind going on and on, “I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to say this. I shouldn’t do this. I’ve got to watch my can’ts.” All of that is an energy that your body is creating. The energy that comes out of your body, you attract like energies. That’s the Law of Attraction at its best. The Law of Attraction is one of the universal laws. It’s a law that is how our universe works. It’s how creation works.
It’s like gravity. You and I are not sitting here thinking about gravity in order to stay in our chairs. In order to not even think about gravity, we’re not flying out into outer space. Whether we’re thinking about it or not, gravity is still working. We’re still on our chairs. We’re on the sixth floor of a building. It makes sense to know about gravity that if I was to walk outside, I’m not going to splat on the ground. Universal laws are the same thing. It works for every single person every single time. I call these the seven essential laws because it’s knowing the rules of a game. It’s how successful would you be. If you’ve never seen baseball before, you go out to a field, someone hands you a bat and goes, “Rob, go play. All you have to do is hit the ball and then run.” You hit the ball and you run to third base. You’re going to be out. Doesn’t it make sense to know the rules of the game?
It does. Knowing the rules of the game as we move forward is like fighting. If you get in a fight and you have no training, you do what’s natural. You swing, you kick, you claw. You then start taking a martial art, a karate class or something and you learn the proper blocks. Trying to do it in perfect form while you’re fighting your natural, you’re almost worse before you get better. What’s the best way to practice not using the word, don’t?
First of all, hear yourself saying it. You have to be aware and then ask yourself, “What do I prefer?” If you hear yourself saying, “I don’t want this,” ask “What do I prefer?” instead and see how you feel.
